Hi my name is Katyana. I'm a 6th Grade student at the Amigos School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The ecosystem that we researched was the Charles River.
The part of the Charles River that is near is right on Memorial Drive, off of Flagg street, which is off of Putnam Ave. which is where our school is (the Amigos)
Biotic Things:
Biotic things are organisms that have life. In the Charles River there were many biotic things, such as producers, consumers, and decomposers.
Producers:
Producers are organisms that get their energy from the sun. For example a producer that we saw at the Charles River was algae.
Consumers:
For consumers there are two different kinds. There are: Herbivores and Carnivores. Consumers are organisms that get their energy by eating.
Herbivores:
Herbivores are consumers that only eat plants and do not eat meat. Some of the Herbivores that we saw at the river were: Gesse, Ducks, Muscles, and Clams.
Carnivores:
Carnivores are consumers that only eat meat and they do not eat plants. Carnivores are the complete opposite of
Herbivores. Some of the Carnivores that we saw were: Bloodsuckers and fish.
Decomposers:
Decomposers are biotic thins that break down dead things to make it rot into the soil. Some of the decomposers that we saw at the river were: Snails, Moss, Mold, and Lichen.
Abiotic:
Abiotic things is something that has never had or will ever have life. Some of the abiotic things that we saw at the river were: rocks, soil, oxygen, and carbon dioxide.
In the picture below some of my classmates are observing what they found!
In the picture below is Aviva and Ruby observing what they have found
